Interview with Real Music Hype March 31 2025

Conversation with Marc Soucy about “PTSD: Paris-Tokyo Suborbital Departures”

and other music in Marc’s productions

March 31 2025 by Terry Papas

Marc Soucy is a composer and producer of hybrid electronic music. It is hybrid in the sense that while “electronically” produced (via virtual instruments, etc), Marc plays over 90% of the parts heard on keyboards, and many folk, jazz, and classical sounds are featured in his compositions. His work is the result of many years of exploration in many styles, and over a decade as an independent producer.

How long have you been making music?
I started formal piano lessons before my 4th birthday, and started composing original music in my late teens. This has been many years in the making!

What genre would you consider your music to be?
Eclectic Hybrid Music, neoclassical meets global folk, neo-jazz, you name it!

What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I had little choice in the matter. I believe I am genetically designed to do this and I can’t imagine life without it, frankly.

What are your biggest musical influences?
Everything from Stravinsky to (prog rock band) Gentle Giant, to Afro Celt Sound System. I still listen to a huge range of stuff and I am constantly checking out what other creative types are doing.

Are you signed to a label or are you an independent artist?
I am an independent that owns my own publishing and I oversee the distribution and promotion activities as well.

What have been the biggest challenges in your music career?
As with everybody, getting heard by the right people. My music is quite different from most and is ideally thought of as “mini soundtracks” to stories you need to imagine.

How many songs or albums have you released to date?
I have just released the 10th single in my series “STIR: Soundscapes Evoking realities Only Imagined”, and there are three more dropping in April, May and June of this year. I have also started releasing a few live performance I did with a drummer and bass player many years ago. These will all be out within the next month or so.

Can you tell us a few things about your latest release?
PTSD: Paris-Tokyo Suborbital Departures is in face single #3 in this “STIR” series, and I am quite flattered that it has attracted your attention. While all of my works are conceptually structured, this one is especially so. It’s like a fantasy/virtual reality experience that’s not so far fetched in the near future.

Any plans for new music or upcoming projects we should know about?
YES! My 13-song “STIR” series all have music videos being released and everything is streamable on all platforms. My old progressive band Antartica will have at least 5 pieces along with music videos, and I will continue releasing a long stream of new music and videos in the coming years, starting this September 2025. So there’s a LOT in the pipeline!
